As the newest brewer here at Laurelwood, this year’s hop harvest was my first opportunity to meet Oregon hop growers and walk through the harvest and facilities. Paul and I visited Stauffer Farms, a family farm established by Oregon Trail visionaries, and picked several bags full of Nugget hops picked only minutes before.
We drove back to Laurelwood Pizza Co and brewed Fresh Nugs, our second fresh hop ale offering at Laurelwood. 2008 was a great year for hops in Oregon, so stop by and enjoy this vintage with us!
Fresh Nugs
Another great reason to live in the Northwest, harvest time! Using the Nugget hop, this beer is start to finish hoppy! We started hopping this beer right off the get go by doing a First Wort Hop addition. From here we continued to add both wet and freshly dried hops throughout the boil. After the boil, we added more hops to our Hop Back before fermentation. And to highlight the aroma we dry hopped the beer with more fresh nugs. This is a true example of a fresh hop beer using only freshly picked hops throughout this beer.
As the Alpha acids on this years harvest have not yet been finalized, we can only accurately tell you that this beer is mondo super good times hoppy.
