Tuesday Taplist - 12/26/07

Another Wednesday, another misnamed taplist post.  The last one of 2007, in fact.  So you should print this out and save it, as it could be a collector's item someday.
...maybe.

Here's the post-holiday rundown:

Hope everyone had a warm and happy holiday.  I drank half a growler of Himmelbrau Helles, ate a huge serving of my Christmas seafood feast, and promptly took a two hour nap.  Woke up, played some Mario Galaxy on Wii, and quickly fell asleep again.

Bourbon Barrel Bock

You are looking at the bung that's sealing in 60 gallons of our as-of-yet unnamed bock in the second of our two Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels.

Tell you what, getting in close and taking this picture smelled great.  And I'm not even a bourbon drinker.

The brewers tasted a sample yesterday and decided that it needs another two or three weeks, at which time it will be blended with the remaining bock, so as not to overpower the flavor with bourbon.  In this beer, subtlety is key.

On the other hand, the Olde Reliable Barleywine that's in the other barrel will not be blended.  Expect big flavor from this one.  Never mind what I said before!  Begone subtlety!

Notice that Pizza Co. has Life of Brian on tap and on cask?  It's a great opportunity to taste the subtle difference between pouring methods.

Ok.  Enough of this computer geek stuff.  I've been downstairs in the computer lab/malt storage room smelling our pizza cooking upstairs in the kitchen for an hour and a half.  I'm going upstairs for a slice.

Olde Reliable Bottling Day

Just a few pictures from our day bottling Olde Reliable Barleywine...

You gotta spill a little beer... Filled bottles awaiting wax tops.

Wax Toppin' Judah dipping the capped bottles into wax (which I almost accidentally ate earlier that morning - hey, it's not my fault unmelted sealing wax looks like Red Hots).

Smiling Brewers Smiling brewers - something you don't always see on bottling days.

And please, will someone remind us to wear more comfortable shoes next time we decide to do something like bottle 800 one-liter bottles of barleywine by hand?

Anyways, come in and get one (or two) while they last.

$15 each, available only at our Laurelwood pubs.
