Pale Ale

A different take on an American classic, we used a few “new to us” hop varieties. They’ve been around for a while but we’ve only recently discovered the joys of Palisade and Cluster hops. Both hop varieties give this beer a fruity, citrus-like flavor and aroma that we think makes this the perfect beer for welcoming the Sun back to our neck of the woods.

Mibütsr Brown

This American Brown Ale contains 6 malts and 4 hop varieties creating a quaffable, amber colored beer. Medium bodied and medium hoppiness.

What's On Tap?

First off, let me start by thanking everyone who's helped make the Organic Green Elephant release such a success. When we started our new seasonal bottling program, GE was one of the first beers to be mentioned as a great candidate for 22 oz bottles. Your excitement over this beer has proved that guess true. Ain't it fun to see a strong Organic IPA out on the grocer's shelves?

And drum roll please...

On Tap at 51st and Sandy: Standards plus Organic Green Elephant IPA, Darkhorse India Dark Ale, and from the vault Himmelbrau Helles.

At Pizza Co: Standards plus Green Elephant, La Rouge Single Hop Ale, Saison D'Arduinna.

At Northwest Public House: Standards plus Wry Pale Ale, Darkhorse and Green Elephant on deck.

Cheers!

Green Elephant and Friends

Organic Green Elephant IPA

The Green Elephant will be making a rare appearance at our 51st and Sandy location and Pizza Co. Just as exciting, Green Elephant will be available at your favorite good beer retailers. The first shipments of 22 oz bottles are going out today. Grab 'em while you can cause this fella is never around for long. Greenelephant GREEN ELEPHANT

ORGANIC IPA

The Green Elephant is big, strong, and green- organic that is. A relative of the American IPA, the Green Elephant takes big hop flavor to the next level. Brewed with 100% organic malt, Cascade, Amarillo and Ahtanum hops, this is a unique and beautiful creature. The Green Elephant’s smooth and subtle malt character gives way to a bold, aggressive hop flavor. But be warned, this is one elephant that can sneak up on you.

Organic Cotton T's

Just in time for the Great Elephant Release, we've got all Organic Cotton T-shirts featuring new Green Elephant artwork. Stop by the pub and check them out, grab a pint of GE and feel good about supporting organics.

What's On Tap?

51st and Sandy: Standards plus Green Elephant, Darkhorse and Espresso Stout. Pizza Co: Standards plus Green Elephant, La Rouge Single-hopped Ale, Saison D'Arduinna. Northwest Public House Standards plus Darkhorse, Green Elephant is up next.

Taplist April 9, 2008

First off, thanks to everyone that showed up at the Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers fest. The event raised a bunch of money for Parkinson's and Leukemia/Lymphoma research. A big thanks to everyone that voted for our Saison D'Arduinna. We tied with Alameda for second place. Lucky Lab's Malt Bomb took first (a great beer) and they'll be hosting the event next year.

Brett_west_pics_004 And now for the beers...

51st Avenue: All standards and Espresso Stout, Organic Deranger Imperial Red (this one's nearly gone), and Darkhorse India Dark Ale.

Pizza Co: Standards plus Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout on cask, Organic Deranger, Saison D'Arduinna. FYI- we've got a single-hop all Ahtanum hop red ale in fermentation. This will likely be out sometime next week.

Northwest: Standards and Espresso Stout. There's some Darkhorse IDA waiting in the wings.

That's all for now. Hope to see you at the pub.

Taplist Tuesday et al.

Taplist Tuesday April 1, 2008

I wanted to let you all know what seasonals are available where. At 51st Avenue we're pouring Organic Deranger and Espresso Stout. We'll release a new "India Dark Ale" named Darkhorse on Wednesday at 51st (see the below description for an idea of what I'm talking about). At Pizza Co. we've got a new Belgian-style Saison d'Arduinna (that description is included here as well). At the Northwest Public House we're rotating between Deranger and Espresso Stout. Next up on the Westside is a keg of Wry Pale Ale- our Pale Ale from the Pizza Co. Brewery. We pride ourselves on keeping an wide array of seasonals available for you guys so I hope you'll find the time to try one of these limited, special beers.

Green Elephant Takes First

We were pleased to hear that our Green Elephant Organic IPA took first place IPA during judging at the Spring Beer and Wine Festival. Check out the list of all the winners.

Cheers to Belgian Beers this Weekend

We'll be pouring our Saison at the Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers event this weekend at Roots. This is a don't miss if you're a Belgian beer fan- and I know you are. There's some more info here.

And now for the beer...Chad_3

Saison

d'Arduinna

Named for the goddess of the Ardennes forest in Belgian, this Belgian-style is our way of welcoming Spring. To create this unique beer we used Organic malted barley, white wheat malt, oats, maize and Belgian candy sugar. Subtle notes of citrus are added by the use of orange and lemon. Most of the character of this beer is thanks to the yeast, a strain from the Ardennes region of Belgium. The beer is named for Arduinna- the goddess of the Ardennes forest.

At Pizza Co. now

Darkhorse

“Dark India Ale”

Inspired by our Workhorse IPA, this Dark India Ale adds a bit more color and malt backbone to the traditional India Pale Ale. Of course we didn’t neglect the hops here either with plenty of Simcoe, Columbus and Centennials added to the boil and in dry hopping.

Spring Beer and Wine Fest

It was great meeting everyone at the fest Friday. If you missed it last night, there's still a chance to hang out, hear some music and, of course, drink some great beer. In anticipation of Green Elephant Organic IPAs release in 22 oz bottles, we brought a few kegs to the festival.  Yeah, that's right- Green Elephant will be our next seasonal bottle release. So grab some Tree Hugger Organic Porter while it lasts, and watch out for the Elephant at stores in early April.

Speaking of Spring, we released Saison du Arduinna. This Belgian-style Saison was brewed with malted barley, flaked barely, oats, maize and Belgian candi-sugar. Yummy!

For those of you not in the know, Organic Deranger Imperial Red is available at the main brewery at 51st and Sandy and at our Northwest Public House on NW Kearny and 23rd. Hope to see you there.

Cheers!

The Brewer's Den

Did you know that there's a lounge upstairs at the 51st and Sandy Laurelwood?

Well there is, and it's really cool.  There's comfy couches, a big screen tv, your own little bar, and now it's open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.  And whenever the weather decides to cooperate, we'll open up the outdoor deck too.

Join us in the Brewer's Den for fun, food, and great handcrafted beers.  You may even catch a glimpse of the wild Oregon brewer in his native habitat.

Taplist Thursday?

New brew!   A note from Chad:

Okey Fanokey   (Oaked Bock)

You've probably had oak-aged beer before, but you ain't never tasted nothing like this. Okey started out as your typical German-style bock, imported malt, imported yeast, lagered for nearly two months. Then we took part of that beer and aged it in used American oak barrels, previously used to age bourbon. We aged the rest on new Oregon-oak to create an undeniably-oakey beer.
